An example of the Inland Revenue's failure to respond to changes in circumstances leading to an overpayment was when a client's partner lost his job and they informed the Inland Revenue giving them this new information. Two months later, nothing had been done. The client approached the CAB, who complained. Still nothing was done. When the Watford CAB contacted Inland Revenue they were told that there was a fault that needed to be remedied with their software and they could not identify in advance the cases which were affected but there were many.
